Day 1

The 9th JAAI National Congress was
held at St Joseph’s college Trichy during 17-19 January 2020. The inauguration
of the Congress was initiated by the high tea provided at the conference at 5
pm. There was a procession to the Jubilee Hall along with the band. About 600+
delegates registered for the event. The inaugural ceremony had a galaxy of
dignitaries on the stage. The programme began with the prayer. Fr Leonard
Fernando SJ Rector of St Joseph’s Institutions Trichy welcomed the gathering.
Fr Denis Ponnaiah SJ Provincial of Madurai province gave his message it was
followed by the felicitation by Fr Jebamalai Raja Provincial of newly formed
Chennai province. Mr Alan Deneef president of WUJA addressed the gathering. He
stressed upon the need of discernment which is the essential part of Jesuit
Tradition. Rev Fr George Pattery SJ (POSA) was the Chief Guest. He
congratulated Dr Devendra Singh Mr Chenthil and their team for providing
quality leadership to JAAI in the last 3 years. He invited all the alumni to be
Global citizens. He called upon all the alumni to rise above the narrow walls
of religion language ethnicity cast and nation. Dr Devendra Singh Mr Chenthil Kumar
WUJA Secretary Mr Naresh Guptha and National advisor to JAAI Rev. Fr. Sunny
Jacob were the other prominent dignitaries present at the function. Prof. John
Varghese Principal of St Stephen’s College Delhi delivered the keynote address.
In his address he highlighted the importance of networking and harmony. Rev Fr
Anbu the province coordinator of Madurai Province proposed vote of thanks. The
inaugural programme was followed by a professional cultural programme by the
members of Kalai Kaviri Trichy. This was followed by a sumptuous dinner
arranged in front of the Library Building of SJC.

Day 2

The first session was chaired by Rev Fr Swebert
D’Silva SJ PCA of Karnataka Province. Justice K Chandru former Judge of Madras
High Court gave a lecture on Judiciary and Networking. He
highlighted how democracy is in danger and also stressed upon the need of
protecting the constitution.

The second session was chaired by Rev Fr Sunny
Jacob SJ National advisor of JAAI. In the second session Rev Fr J. Felix Raj SJ
Vice Chancellor of St Xaviers University deliberated upon Jesuit education and Networking.
He said that Jesuit Education is holistic-forming men and women for
others-providing a social dimension to education. Mr R Vijaya Sankar Editor in
Chief of the Frontline spoke on media and networking.

Dr Jebamalai Vinanchiarachi principal Secretary
(Retd.) UNIDO Vienna spoke on Global networking for Social harmony.  Dr S Irudaya Raja professor at Center for
Developmental studies Trivandrum spoke on India’s role in International
migration. The last session before lunch was taken up by Ms Vaishali Janarthanan
social Activist from Mumbai on Networking in Gender Sensitization and Child

Post Lunch session had a group discussion. The
participants were divided into 4 groups and questions (4-5) were dealt in each
group. Karnataka Group was moderated by prof. Edmund Frank. This was followed
by Zonal Presentations. Karnataka province presentation was done by Dr Richard
Gonsalves. The session was concluded by JAAI Awards presentations. At 5.30pm
the Karnataka Province alumni meeting was chaired by Rev Fr Swebert D’Silva SJ.
In the meeting Prof Edmund Frank and Mr Clement D’Souza were selected as
accredited delegates for selection of office bearers of JAAI nation General
Council(GC). Announcements of Province level office bearers meeting twice in a
year South Zone Congress scheduled at Mangalore in the Month of November Golden
Jubilee of St Joseph’s College Bangalore were made by the PCA. The day long
activity concluded with Variety Entertainment organized by ST Joseph’s Higher
Secondary School and SJC students. Finally we all had sumptuous Dinner arranged
in the hall below the library Building

Day 3

On the final day at 7.45 am there was a meeting
of JAAI accredited delegates which unanimously elected CA Chenthil Kumar as the
President and Mr Neelmani  Rangesh as the
Secretary Mr Ravin Roy as the treasurer. Prof Edmund Frank was selected as the
GC member of Karnataka Province.

Later there was a business meeting in the
auditorium. Mr Francisco Guarner Chairman of WUJA Congress 2021 extended
invitation to all the delegates to attend the WUJA congress 2021 at Barcelona

In the valedictory function CA V Ramakrishnan
spoke on Opportunities in the networked world while the Chief guest Dr V
Thiruppugazh IAS spoke on Networking for safer and disaster resilient
. The conference ended with vote of thanks followed by lunch

SACAA unit from Mangalore was represented by 5
members – Rev Dr Praveen Martis SJ (Director and Principal of St Aloysius
College-Autonomous) Prof. Edmund Frank Dr Richard Gonsalves Mr Naveen
Mascarenhas and Mr Dhiraj Sequeira. From Karnataka province for the very first
time 23 members participated in the Congress
